The Game

Threads of Light.

Amina is a Lebanese danger-zone photojournalist, the best in her firm, who learned as a child to feel nothing and let the picture do it for her. When she photographs her grandmother's last breath instead of holding her hand, something gives. Obsession follows, then the loss of everything. She retreats to a town where she can find peace, but finds herself on a couch she can't leave.

To survive, Amina takes gigs around the Arabian Peninsula. While traveling to different places between the UAE and Saudi Arabia, she visits iconic locations between museums and different landscapes where her psyche takes her into worlds shaped by Anxiety, Imposter Syndrome and Anger.

Lumen, early concept
Lumen · Second Playable Character

A companion of light.

A companion made of light, and a manifestation of Amina's psyche. She will guide Amina through the Otherworld, and allow her to face her buried emotions. She is the second playable character of Threads of Light.

Amina's camera, her tool in both worlds
Camera · Both Worlds

The truth she's chasing.

Amina was a danger-zone photojournalist before the Otherworld found her. She was obsessed with the moment a soul leaves a body, and the obsession cost her everything. The camera is what's left of that life. In both worlds it's how she sees. It shows what the eye alone misses, and it's a mirror she has to learn to face.

Take the picture. Read what it shows you. Decide what to do with it.

What makes it different

Four ideas the work is built on.

01

Mental health at the core

Emotions are places, and the way each one is built is the gameplay. Every Otherworld chapter is one emotion. You get through it by understanding it.

02

Puzzles, not combat

No combat. You face the Shades, Amina's emotions given form, with observation and insight. Every encounter is a puzzle to read.

03

The Arabian Peninsula, rendered with care

AlUla, Khaybar, Hegra, Abu Dhabi, Dubai. Ancient cities, oases and natural environments, recreated with care by a team from across the region.

04

Two worlds, chirally connected

Two worlds connected through Amina's subconscious, chiral reflections of each other, similar but fundamentally different. What mysteries await in the Otherworld?

The Studio

Built around one defining IP.

Fable Forge Studio is a Dubai-based, Lebanese-led narrative game studio. We are eight people, a distributed team, building Threads of Light as our first game and our defining first IP.

We chose single-IP focus over work-for-hire because we believe a serious narrative game in this region needs the kind of patience that contract work won't allow. The studio is structured around getting Threads of Light right.
